being home
What am I doing home????
1) when I can be at the riverwalk for the SPURS parade and cheer "MVP! MVP! MVP!" as Tim Duncan's barge passes, or "Manu, Manu, Manu!" while Manu's barge does the same. I can actually take pictures of the SPURS! And oh, to finally see (giddy) Popovich deliver a joke! Dang, what the championship trophy can make you do! Ok I need to throw this in, (in the spirit of celebrity name dropping)---Tony Parker and Eva Langoria together in one barge. Kei.
Instead, I'm home and watching it on TV.
Why? First of all, I don't have anyone to go with. Everyone else is either working, sleeping, or at the Kerry's for a cook-out. (I write this last one as if I am nearly familiar with the workings of Apple's church's college group....however, I just pulled this out from the memory of Kasaya (?) calling everyone with a line that goes ..."Hi I just want to remind you that at 6:30, we're going to meet at the Kerry's (or Carry?) and it's going to be a cook-out so bring an empty stomach" (not verbatim though but something like that). Ok just to clarify...I am a Catholic and way past college....so I can't be at the Kerry's - technically, even though I got invited)
2) I can go and swim actually, but there's still sunlight, and well, I really don't have to elaborate that, or do I? Two things - Sunburn and exposure! Get it? And as with the first....nobody to swim with.
3) I am on my 4th summer read - Dreaming in Black and White by Laura Jensen Walker. So sitting so comfortably in my dish chair letting time pass by unnoticed is actually an idea worth pursuing. I can write a review of the last book as well, but I'll reserve that.
4) I really feel like having a relaxed and comfortable time off from the 2 crazy days I had at work. Right now, I'm actually ok, my book ready to be read, watching the SPURS on TV, and my laptop close by. I'm good.
x-cess:
Just to give a picture of what's happening at the riverwalk......imagine Edsa. Very much like that, except it's nothing political, just one group supporting one team.
more x-cess: Manu's fave movie - Sixth Sense
Fave movie line - "I see dead Pistons!"
Go SPURS Go!!!!!!!!!

Book # 3
I'm reading too slow! Last summer I was reading at least 1 book per week! Now I'm still on my 3rd book. But then again, it's just the 1st day of summer (",).
So, Im done with Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner, book #2. It's simple and funny. It's just great. There was a mushy chapter towards the end but I guess that's expected. Y'know, resolution of the dilemma and all that. But altogether, this is really a great read. Something to bring along on a perfecting-my-suntan-day, something to keep you company while sunbathing. Or just a companion for a lazying-around-doing-nothing-all-day kind of day, trying to recuperate from four crazy as hell days at work!
On to the next book - "With this Ring, I'm Confused by Kristin Billerbeck. I must admit, it was the title that caught my attention. I realized that for this summer, I'm into the laid back, light and easy, funny reads. John Grisham will have to wait. I'm not ready for the action and excitement just yet.

RAmBLiNg
With out Schlitterbahn adventure coming very soon, I decided to try the Lemonade diet.....1qt water plus non-iodized seasalt (like drinking seawater, yukkkk) firts thing in the morning, 6-8 glasses of fresh lemonade with molasses. Nothing else, except water. I was supposed to do it for 7 days, and I was sure to lose my abflabs. Well, I took the seawater with tears in my eyes but finished the whole 1 qt. And the lemonade? I lasted about 10 minutes before I decided this is not going to work for me. I could taste the molassess with every gulp I take. There's just some things I couldn't tolerate. Molasses, it turned out, was one of them, along with beets. When I tried the 3 day diet which involved eating at least a cupfull of beets it totally made me barf! Or maybe my mind was exaggerating with the memory just a tad bit. Just the same, nobody can make me eat beets ever again!
What to do when you have ingested 1 qt of seawater plus half a glass of molassed lemonade? Go to Wingstop and catch the 2nd half of the Spurs and Pistons' game #six, that's what. Sad part was that we (Spurs) lost, and so we're going to a do or die game 7. At least I enjoyed my lemon pepper wings. Hmmm, did I say lemon?

my so-called-trip
Summer has officially started! For me that is. I am now almost done with my first summer read - Fat Girls and Lawn Chairs, which is, by the way, a very good one. I have used the pool at twice already and I went on my first out-of-town trip.
Last week, I went to Corpus Christi with some friends. It was a short (2 days) but really sweet, and might I add, a well-deserved time away from work. Corpus Christi is 2-3 hours from San Antonio. The sand is very much like Boracay, but the ambiance is a lot more like Puerto Galera. But whatever, I had a great time, which is most likely due to my great fondness for the beach. I could have just sat there with a book and the sound of the waves in the background and it would have been heaven for me. There were a few treats that came with it, too. Like the colorful Port Aransas that I got a lot of photos of. And who can ignore the very delicious grilled yellow fin tuna salad that I had for lunch! That was just awesome. And the multitude of souvenir shops that I surveyed (read-did not buy anything) and nearly decided to change my room's motif to nautica because I can, literally, decorate my room with all the available trinkets. Good thing I got self-control (more like no money to spend!!!!! lol ).
And as a cherry topping, we got to go to the USS Lexington aircraft carrier, whis is now a museum on the bay. Of course, more photos! We did not have a chance to go to the Aquarium, though. Which is actually not a bad thing, because now, we have a reason to go back! Yipee!
So there you go, Corpus Christi, I'll be back!
